Time Management Strategies – Lesson #1
Time always seems to work against us.
We race against the clock…
We’re pulled in multiple directions at once…
We’re required to multi-task…
We get to a point where our attention is so overwhelmed by task lists and what step to take next that we can’t focus for longer than a few moments on the important things; even if we have the time to do so.
We need to change our relationship with time.
Instead of allowing time to control us, we must take control of IT.
A few ways to take control of time include:
- Take control of the center.
This simply means that you need to maintain an ever-present awareness of where the center of attention is focused. Pick one task and focus until completion. Minimise distraction of emails, phone calls and social chatter.
- Control the out.
Know when to say “no” in honor of the bigger “yes’s”. You do this by setting goals and not overcommitting so that you may reach those goals.
- Schedule time for breaks and play.
Engaging in an activity that brings you joy, a creative outlet, or physical exertion is a great way to allow your mind to rest and reset, allowing for more productivity and sharper focus.
Most people believe it’s efficient to write a never ending task list, but it’s in fact the least efficient way of managing your time.
