How many times have you tried to look for tips on how to become a better leader, and the following results have come up;
• Be passionate
• Have a positive attitude
• Encourage creativity
• Let employees in on your vision
• Etc. etc.?
These are all great – don’t get me wrong. But what would be even better is if you were given the ‘HOW’ behind the ‘WHAT’.
For example, being a more passionate leader starts by identifying your role as a leader. What does it mean to
you to be a leader? What do you want to achieve by being a leader? To be passionate, you must take action!
Make things happen and it’ll light a fire within you!
I could go on and on…
The message I want to share with you here is to take this same approach when leading your team.
When you’re setting expectations and delegating tasks, don’t just give them the ‘what’. Work on the ‘how’ together.
You’ll see results delivered more effectively and efficiently when a ‘how map’ is drawn.
If you were to take the time right now to reflect on all of the instructions you’ve given to people in your career,
how often have you only provided them with the ‘what’? What impact do you think adding a ‘how’ to it would
Think about this next time…What is the ‘how’ to your ‘what’?
