Every day, start your day by looking in the mirror and repeating these words, “it’s not about me”. Do this multiple times a day!
Leadership is honestly not about you. You will not get promoted or praised because you’re in charge or right about everything.
Leaders are made an example of when they can serve the needs of those being led by them.
If you want to be a great leader, focus on others. I know this feels unorthodox to our idea of leadership, but a leader is one committed to their team. They’re committed to working for the benefit of all.
You can have authority and not be a leader.
• The ability to influence people to follow your instructions
• Coaching your employees and guiding the way
• Generating enthusiasm
• Using ‘we’ instead of ‘I’
• Developing people
• Asking questions
• The ability to exercise control
• Driving employees instead of guiding them
• Inspiring fear
• Using ‘I’ instead of ‘we’
• Using people
• Giving commands
Be very careful of this trap, distinguish the difference between leadership and authority, view your people as your biggest success. Only then can you become a true leader, only then will your team devote themselves to you, and only then will you succeed.
