As leaders, we sometimes have to make tough, unpopular decisions, even after conferring with our team.
Although collecting the opinion and support of your team is without a doubt important, it is even more important that you make the final call.
The comforting thing here is that in most cases where the decision made by you is different to that of the team, it is usually when there is a divide of opinions within the team itself. So, you are not going against what the ENTIRE team have discussed.
In situations where the whole team have agreed on the same outcome, you would have been a part of that discussion and more than likely agreed unanimously.
How can we measure what the right call would be? Well, I can tell you it is not measurable by how many people have been annoyed by your decision.
The ultimate measurement of success would be to ask yourself if the decision made, has taken you closer to or further away from the overall goal?
You will not always make the right decisions, and that is okay as long as you learn from them!
The only certainty is that the worst decision you can make, is to not make a decision at all.
